The person who will actually be there

Twelve years before YANA had a name, he was already saying it.

At sixteen, Michael Fowler had the kind of life a lot of Dallas parents recognize: a private-school education, a standout junior tennis career with real scholarship offers, a good family, a future that looked, from the outside, picture-perfect. Within a week of trying his first drug, he was off and running. What followed was years of addiction and a stretch of homelessness — a slow unraveling his own family watched happen and couldn’t stop. He was somebody’s son once, exactly like the young man you’re worried about right now. He found his way back.

He’s in recovery himself today — from addiction, and from a gambling addiction as well. That isn’t a credential he keeps at arm’s length from the people he works with. It’s the reason the families who sit across from him can tell the difference between someone reciting a program and someone who has actually lived the version of this they’re living right now. He doesn’t perform distance from the guys he works with, and he doesn’t pretend the work is ever finished.

Michael has worked inside the treatment industry for more than twenty years, since 2005 — technology, admissions, business development, leadership — watching the field from every angle there is. Somewhere in that climb, he noticed that the further he got from the guys actually in the room, the less connection he felt to why he’d started. YANA Recovery Services is his way back to that work.

He’s a Certified Recovery Coach and an ARISE-certified interventionist, working in partnership with Campbell Recovery Services. He also served in the recovery ministry at Highland Park United Methodist Church — one of the largest Methodist congregations in the country.

Back in 2014 — twelve years before YANA existed — a reporter asked him what he’d tell someone who felt like there was no way out. His answer ran in print:

You are not alone. If you feel like there’s no hope, there is hope. And if I can do it, anybody can do it.

  1. Recovery Coaching

    Michael meets your son where he lives — his apartment, your home. He helps him find sponsors, home groups, and meetings that actually fit.

    2×/week in-person minimum · daily check-ins

  2. Gambling Addiction Coaching Michael’s specialty

    The addiction that hides in plain sight. He’s in gambling recovery himself, and his free weekly support group is open to your son from day one — more on that below.

  3. Interventions

    ARISE-model intervention, led by an ARISE-certified interventionist — built to invite your son into help, not corner him into it.

    How it unfolds

    2. ii.Your family prepares together, with his guidance, before anyone else is approached.
    3. iii.The intervention itself — respectful, structured, no ultimatums.

  4. Family Case Management

    Michael works with you as much as with your son — coaching on boundaries and detachment, handling logistics, and billing through a single invoice. One person to call, not five.

  5. Crisis Response

    When things are urgent, Michael can respond the same day — assessment, help finding the right detox or treatment placement, and he’ll personally stay with your son to help stabilize things, with team backup, never working alone.

  6. Sober Transports

    Safe transport to and from detox, treatment, or sober living — anywhere in Texas, and beyond.

A free gambling support group — open to anyone.

Every week, Michael facilitates a free gambling support group. It’s confidential and straightforward — just Michael and the group. You don’t have to be a client to join.

Straight answers, before you ever pick up the phone.

Is this therapy?
No. Michael is a Certified Recovery Coach and ARISE-certified interventionist — not a therapist, counselor, or clinician. He works alongside licensed clinicians and treatment providers rather than replacing them. Coaching, accountability, and logistics are his lane.
What does this cost?
Every family’s situation is different, so we don’t post prices online. This is private-pay work, which keeps it personal, flexible, and completely discreet — one point of contact, one invoice. Call for a confidential conversation, and Michael will walk you through what makes sense for your son and your family.
What’s “failure to launch”?
It’s the pattern some families describe: a young adult who’s stuck — not working, not in school, not moving forward, often still living at home. It frequently overlaps with substance use or gambling, but not always. Michael works with a lot of these families, and the starting point is usually the same honest conversation.
What if he refuses help?
That’s common, and it doesn’t mean you’re stuck. Michael is an ARISE-certified interventionist — the ARISE model is built around inviting someone into help, not cornering them into it. He can talk you through options even before your son is ready to speak with anyone.
Do you work with the whole family?
Yes — often as much with you as with your son. Family Case Management means coaching on boundaries and detachment, staying informed throughout, and you deal with Michael and no one else.
How discreet is this?
Discretion is the default. Many families Michael works with specifically want to avoid a group setting where they might be recognized. Meetings happen at your home, a private setting, or wherever makes sense, and everything discussed stays between you and Michael.
What about gambling?
It’s one of Michael’s specialties, and a specialty few programs focus on. He also runs a free weekly gambling support group, in person or on Zoom, open to anyone — not just his clients.
